Psychological Capacity-Building Session – Shishu Vatika
A psychological capacity-building session was conducted for the Shishu Vatika teachers at the CRB Branch on 29 September 2026, under the guidance of the Pathfinder Guidance & Counselling Cell. The session was led by Dr. Navpreet Bhathal, Psychologist, BVM Group of Schools, and focused on understanding early-childhood behaviour from a developmental and psychological perspective.
The session covered several important areas, including emotional regulation and co-regulation, positive behaviour management, building secure teacher-child relationships, avoiding labelling and punitive discipline, and the early identification of emotional, behavioural and developmental concerns.
Teachers were encouraged to adopt a thoughtful and child-centred approach: Observe → Understand → Respond → Refer → Support. This approach emphasised the importance of understanding the underlying reasons for a child's behaviour and responding with patience, empathy and appropriate guidance.
The session reinforced the need to create emotionally safe, inclusive and developmentally responsive classrooms. It also highlighted the importance of strengthening collaboration among teachers, counsellors and the Psychological Head to support the overall well-being and development of young learners.
“Understand the child behind the behaviour before correcting the behaviour.”
